The 840W is a high-end power amplifier that has been designed by the same team behind the 840A and uses an evolution of Cambridge Audio’s hugely innovative Class XD™ technology for a highly detailed naturally musical performance. The second generation Class XD is now complemented by a new output stage carefully adjusted to integrate with this novel technology, revised balanced inputs for lower distortion and noise. Whilst an off-the-shelf CD/DVD-ROM drive might be fine for your laptop, if you’re really serious about extracting every last detail from your discs then look no further than the 350C which features Cambridge Audio’s dedicated audio-only CD transport. This is then coupled to Cambridge Audio’s third generation proprietary S3 servo solution which dynamically adjusts the focussing, tracking and output level of the laser in real time. This in turn enables maximum retrieval of disc data, guarantees extremely low jitter and delivers amazingly dynamic sound.

Taking performance even higher, the 650C builds on the 550C by optimising a pair of WM8740 24bit/ 192kHzcapable DACs implemented in a dual differential configuration. Since each channel has its own DAC to process information, completely separate and symmetrical analogue filter circuitry can be implemented for excellent imaging. The 650C also features the more sophisticated Four-Pole Dual Differential Double Virtual Earth Balanced version of this filter resulting in an incredibly low noise floor, barely measurable distortion and ultimately unprecedented levels of performance.

Using the upsampling technology present in the top-of-the-range 840C barnstormer, now married to dual Wolfson WM8740 24-bit DACs with a newly developed Bessel implementation of our proprietary virtual earth balanced filtering, the 740C is set to rejuvenate the mid price sector. The 740C incorporates the same 32-bit DSP as the 840C and upsamples to full 24-bit 384 kHz.

Extending the functionality of Cambridge Audio’s critically acclaimed integrated stereo Azur amplifiers and AV receivers are two phono pre-amplifiers. The entry-level 540P is a high quality Moving Magnet design featuring single-ended ‘Class A’ gain stages and discrete transistors instead of the more common integrated circuits. This gives less cross-talk and interference across the signal path. The 540P employs an active RIAA equalisation system. The rear panel benefits from gold plated input connectors to minimise signal path interference and reduce surface degradation. An external power supply comes as standard.

The 640P phono pre-amplifier (sometimes known as a phono stage) also uses superior amplification circuitry for its MM and MC stages to provide the lowest possible distortion and noise. In addition, the flagship model employs multi-parallel capacitors to achieve exceptional RIAA accuracy of only 0.3dB up to 50kHz and features a defeatable subsonic filter.
